Brake calliper binding

Fitted new nearside rear calliper, disc and pads offside calliper not renewed but now that is sticking .. definitely wasn’t before !
What could the issue be ?

either the piston is stuck in the bore (less likely) or the slide pins which allow the piston to move are crusty/sticky/nasty (more likely)

pull, clean, regrease and refit the slider pins and then check operation.
next thing is to make sure the piston moves freely - its quicker and easer to replace a caliper but a lot cheaper (although more involved and time consuming) to rebuild and reseal the caliper.

30 mins to diagnose, another 30 to replace&bleed caliper or another 1-1.5 hours to strip/clean/rebuild the caliper.


remember to buy brake fluid and bleed prperly IF you break in to the hydraulics.

Cheers olas, just spoke to mechanic who fitted bits ... he says piston wound in easily so suggests that not issue. He seems to think hand brake mechanism could be fault

I've had handbrake cables that have corroded internally and seized preventing the handbrake from releasing (and a glowing rear disc!).
