Get yourself some cobalt drill bits. They are much better than normal HSS drill bits.

I doubt it would pass an MOT like that and in any event, it sounds dangerous.

OP - just imagine for a moment that your bodge causes/contributes to a serious accident?

Sort it properly with some cobalt drills, or just swop the whole hub. They ain't expensive from breakers.

Guess he has his answer.

From a welding point of view welding mild steel to cast would be near impossible .. never mind the other crap in the space like grease
and as others have said from a safety point its just crazy. It would make an MOT testers day for sure.
