Hi all.
Just had a bit of 'fun' changind the front suspension dust boots on a 1.5 suzuki swift 2007.

The anti roll bar drop links to be precise. Those great threaded fixings that have the Allen key head to stop the ball joint spinning while you indo a rusty old nut.
I ended up grinding the nuts off as the hex head rounded off. Was relatively straight forward bit cist me a pair of arb drop links.

So whilst the new ones are still shiny and new is there anything that would maybe protect the thread a bit better so if I come to replace them in another 10years I might save myself £30 smile

Something called 'paint'.
If you get 10yrs out of a droplink you're doing ok. Nobody in the trade uses a spanner on those, you bend down and pick up the angle grinder everytime.

Not quite sure why some of the replies appear to be mocking you.

Like is apparently the case for those 'in the trade' I have also had to resort to the angle grinder.

So rather than cause myself the aggravation next time, I smeared a little grease into hex, and popped over a few of these:

If the thread protrudes too far for them to work, you could try this sort of thing:

Grease, copaslip etc.

Would be unusual for a garage just to replace the boots on these as if the boot has split the ball & its seat are usually well worn hence why they just cut them off.
If your old joints were floppy/loose when you got them off then they needed replacing anyway.

It may sound daft but low strength threadlocker compound, something like Locktite 222.

Used liberally it stops any moisture getting into the threads. Then heavy grease on any exposed threads.

Note to mods, I know there's a youtube thread. This is not for it.

Apols to OP for thread deviation.

Copper slip is good, or a waterproof grease (most are not) like marine stern tube grease.

I wouldn't worry about the OP, he hasn't been back since he posted so it's open house as far as i'm concerned.
