Coilovers socks

So recently installed coilovers on my Nissan 350z and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with coilovers socks? How did you find them? any adverse effects, did they do what you wanted them to?

Would they somehow affect the suspension operation. With suspension being in the wheel wells, they live in a pretty harsh environment so other than routine wheel off cleaning I was thinking of other options.

If they do genuinely seal well, probably do no harm. I'd be inclined to give inside a good coat of waxoyl or similar product though to offer some rust protection etc when everything is wrapped inside the sock ( and in general over such components as they always corrode )

Cheers, have given everything a coat of ACF50 to help keep the corrosion at bay

Never used them personally, when I looked in to getting some there were two camps... Either they're great, or they hold moisture and make them corrode quicker.

Looking at my 5yr old/30something thousand mile ST XTA, I wished I'd either got socks or the inox coated kw's instead.

I've used Kirkey coilover boots which are loose fitting over the coils and unsealed at the bottom. They did a great job at keeping the coilover clean and the adjusters didn't suffer as much crud and corrosion.

Most coilovers seem to corrode extremely quickly, at least with road use anyway.

Always worth coating them with something to prevent it, especially any adjusters. I'd doubt the socks would aggravate that condition though.

Cheers - lad on the 350z forum mentioned the same so ive ordered a set of socks from an eBay seller. Breathable as not fully sealed top and bottom so should do the trick, as not wanting to trash these coilovers as i use them on my daily.

ACF50 underneath and make it a job every 6 months to free up the adjusters I'm sure they'll be fine. I'd be worried about a sock trapping moisture, but I suppose a breathable one could well work.

Me too. They'll dry better in the open.

+1, in a dry climate they might work, but how often in the UK will you have springs sitting inside a sodden sock?
