Swapping my wheels, basic questions

Ive just picked up a 2020 V90 with 21" wheels.
Whilst they look great I'm not keen but I wanted the car and am looking to buy some 18" wheels for winter with some cross climates on it.

If I do, do I need to:

"Tell' the car that it has smaller wheels? (It has switchable driving modes and Polestar mapping)
How do you replace the tyre pressure sensors?

Any other considerations? Looking for a 5 x 108 bolt pattern

You'll need to swap or re-pair the pressure sensors, the owner's manual should suggest which is best.

18" wheels won't be a problem but you'll need quite a bit more sidewall profile to make up the same rolling radius. What are the sizes on the car now?

Make sure the wheels will fit over the brake callipers. If they do then fit tyres that give the same (or very similar) overall diameter, this means they will have a taller sidewall.

Just have a look at what Volvo spec from new in terms of 18's or whatever.

Not if the new tyres maintain the same overall diameter.

If you look at the tyre pressure sticker (often on the door pillar) it should show all of the alternative wheel and tyre sizes that were available as OEM.

Easiest option would be to grab some Volvo 18"'s from the same car; Only worry you should have is if there's extra large brakes on your model. - Saves having to worry about hubcentric rings, lug nuts and other such fineries. - Usually a cheap option too.

Can be worth checking wheel specs for previous models too, they'll usually keep similar specs.

FWIW The 2021 price list says the standard wheels are "18" 10 Spoke Turbine Alloy Wheels with 245/45 Tyres".

Get a set of them. The ride should improve immeasurably.
