Weird Tyre Size Needed

Howdy everyone!

The Porsche could do with some new rears before the winter comes back, but I’ve got a bit of an issue.

I’ve always put Continental Sport Contact 2 on her, but they don’t seem to be made any more. Also, when I put in the tyre size - 235/50R17 - it appears there’s almost no premium rubber available for it.

Am I doing something wrong here? Why can’t I find decent 235/50R17 tyres any more?

I really dislike having mixed brands (even over different axels) - is there anywhere I can find the Continentals?

Anyone else finding this an issue?

Fit 245/45 instead, loads of availability in whatever brands and N rating you want.

I was thinking that, but I’m worried about inducing more understeer.

This lists a single set of Goodyear Eagles. I’ll keep that in mind, thanks!

What's the front size you're running?

They’re a thin 205/55R17

215/50 is another reasonably available size, use that as well.

I may be missing something here, but I stuck that tire size into Black Circles and premium came up… Pirelli P7, Michelin Primacy and Goodyear, although the GY is an EfficientGrip.

Tyre sizes are annoying. The latest Goodyear F1 asymmetric 6 you can get for the rear of a F30 BMW with factory 19" wheels but they don't make the front size. Especially annoying with xdrive as they really like identical tyres all round so had to go for the older asymmetric 5.

It’s such a pain. I really like the feel of the car with the Conti Sport Contacts - I’ve run them consistently for 10 years now - but I seems I’ll need to find something new ☹️

ASDAtyres have both sizes in Michelin Primacy 3, they are a good tyre and have been around a while like the SC11.



£161 & 129 fitted at their local fitting network which is all over the country.

Conti sport contact 7 are apparently the best now - bit more expensive than F1 or PS4 though.

The more performance oriented SC5 is still available for the rears:

I could only find the PremiumContact 6 in the 205/55-17 size.

The UltraContact seems to be a long-life tyre that might not be a great match for a sports car?

The SC7 is a really good tyre but they are at least so far only available in bigger sizes.

Similar prices to the F1A 6 where available and much less than the PS4S, which are becoming harder to get in some sizes. I expect that the PS5S is around the corner. The PS4 has already been replaced by the PS5.

I would definitely look at European suppliers such as Opeoeo or Mytyres (Part of Delti Group who use loads of names online). Mytyres are a bit hit and miss - they have taken 2 weeks to deliver, whereas Oponeo are spot on.
