I have indirect tpms in my car. According to the manual you should always hit the tpms reset button after inflating tyres.

What exactly does this button do? Due to it being indirect it cannot monitor exact tyre pressure but just measure the wheel rotations on each axle through an abs sensor and if they change then the alert comes on I understand that.

If someone could explain what actually happens when you press the tpms button after inflating the tyres I'd be thankful.

It presumably resets the stored data, allowing for a new calibration (made once the car is moving for a while) which in turn accounts for any existing discrepancy between wheel rotations.

Also, ABS sensors are usually on each wheel, not per axle.
