I wonder if you can help. I was helpfully doing some checks on a family members car due to upcoming MOT as they are not very mechanically minded. After topping the oil up by almost a litre (it needed it) and advising on a potential tyre issue, I decided to check the brake fluid level. I couldn't see the level as it seems to have a comically small visible reservoir. Still couldn't see after removing the lid but when putting back the lid doesn't screw on, it like a lid with a half turn and then just sort of latches on. Every car i have had has had its reservoir lid with some sort of substantial screw on there and you know its on and locked. This Civic lid doesn't seem to feel tight. To make things worse its half under the bulk head so you cant get your hand on it properly.

I'm now wondering (and worrying) if I've put it on wrong and think the first time they brake fluid is going to be pushed out via the lid and they will lose brakes.

Anyone with a Honda Civic Mk8, could you confirm if the lid is as described please?

Just to add, its like this at roughly 7:09 how loose it appears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qydrsTFm_Y0

Im going to have to go later and check (hours round trip) just to be at ease.

The brake fluid can't be pushed out when using the brakes as the reservoir is never pressurised.

However if it weren't on at all there is obviously the possibility that on corners/under braking that fluid could run out due to the effect of fluid momentum.

There is quite clearly a seal on that, so although it isn't a common arrangement, provided the cap is on securely it is perfectly good enough for the task at hand.

Thanks, I called round yesterday and double checked for peace of mind. It was on secure anyway.
