Same tyres on each axle

I’ve heard this said as a MOT requirement.

But how far does that go? Same size, presumably, Same manufacturer and model?

Same age?

I ask because the front near side on my rwd bmw has a bulge and the front two are about 5000 miles old. And they are 200-250 a pop.

Pretty sure the MOT rule is just not mixing cross plys and radials, which is not going to pose a problem for a modern tyre.

I’d try to match the existing if you can - maybe look locally for a part worn or eBay tyre and getting it fitted?

They are 245/40 r19 so I think I will struggle to find a second hand … with only 5k on it.

Id just buy a new front to match the good front tyre thats already on there, assuming the exact tyre is still available. Having 1 new tyre and 1 tyre on 5k miles will be just fine, for mot testing and actually driving.

Or if youre really anal, buy two new fronts, and sell the part worn one on ebay.

I'd buy two new tyres and keep the partworn as a spare. £200~250 a tyre seems a bit steep though?

I have Goodyear excellence on it. Less expensive tyres are available. Difficult to find dearer.

Black circles was 234 fitted.

That’s excellent. I will try to remember to use that next time, I didnt have a clue Asda was doing tyres. Asda for the same tyre is 219, so a useful saving. Their slot is a day sooner too!

I have been using them for years after always buying on www & fitting at a local indie, now I don't bother I go straight to them & the vast majority of the time they are cheaper & have a fitting station just 3 miles away from me.

Same size only, obviously adhering to any markings on the tyre itself for fitment.

Make irrelevant. I'd say no mixing of types, eg snow and summer etc
