Tyre tread wear limit
Discussion
Just a quick one. Do the tyre limit markers mean a fail for the MOT.
I've got my MOT booked on Wednesday and just noticed I've got about 1mm above the markers on the fronts. Would they fail or could I get away with an advisory.
I'm just wondering if I need to faff about getting tyres in the next two days.

Wear markers are usually at 2mm. So you would have 3mm.
I think (unless it has changed) the law states there must be 1.6mm of tread on 3/4 of the tyre with visible tread on the remainder.
So I doubt you'd even get an advisory.
New tyres have about 8mm so yours are are just over half worn.

1) Tread Wear Indicators are at 1.6mm with a tolerance of +0.6/-0.0 mm (source: ETRTO, European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation and UNECE Regulation 30)I think (unless it has changed) the law states there must be 1.6mm of tread on 3/4 of the tyre with visible tread on the remainder.

2) an advisory would be if the tester believes it should be replaced soon
3) many tyres have less than 8mm tread depth from new. In fact a full 8mm seems to be getting rarer nowadays.
