Hi

I thought I would start a new thread on this issue as I have a slightly different issue, and I’m now on my second set of discs and pads (and a caliper) and it’s driving me insane.

Skoda Scala

Issue 1 - “chuffing” sound whilst driving from front right, which sounds like something rubbing.

Issue 2 - clunking sound going over bumps, pads moving in calipers.

Issue 1 has being going on for around a year and in that time I replaced the discs and pads twice but it’s still there. I thought there was perhaps a sticking caliper but a new caliper hasn’t cured it. The brake disc shield isn’t rubbing.

The inner pad is moving between the caliper and the disc; you can see from the picture that the springs don’t hold them securely in the caliper piston; it doesn’t take much movement for them to pop out a bit, and when you go over a bump they rattle against the caliper.

Is this just a case of poor quality pads (Brembo)? I’m loathed to replaced them for a third time and I have spent so much time on this and issue 1 it is driving me mad.

Have you changed the sliding pins? They tend to have a rubber part on them, not sure what it is called but they wear out and the caliper will wobble on the pins. Not sure what the pins are like on your car. But worth a look.

I would just bend those springs on the pads, so they make better contact.

Many thanks. I’ve changed the guid pins when I changed the caliper but it didn’t make any difference unfortunately. I did try and bend springs out but it has made them worse rather than better!
