Blackcircle tyres denied my guarantee for cracked tyres
Discussion
I had an advisory from the MOT on Monday 16th Sept that all 4 tyres were cracked/perished. Blackcircles have denied my claim for 100% replacement and told me to 'monitor' the cracks. All 4 tyres have full circumference cracks.
These are DOT 0122 so 2 years old fitted August 2022 and have done 11.5K miles

Thank you for your email and submitting the warranty claim.
We have confirmed the reported perishing, and the process is visible as cracking in the treads.
Perishing or cracking of tyres is a natural process that occurs as they age, are exposed to the elements, and experience temperature fluctuations. As tyres age, the polymers weaken and begin to deteriorate, causing them to harden and become brittle, leading to cracking. While various factors can influence this process, the primary ones include UV exposure, usage, and tyre pressure maintenance. The anti-ageing chemicals used in the rubber compounds are more effective when the tyre is "exercised" frequently. The repeated stretching of the rubber compound helps resist cracks forming.
Based on the images, the cracking is still only on the surface with no cords visible, so it doesn't compromise the tyre's structure or performance, and they can still be used. However, it is important to have these checked and regularly monitored if they are to be used for the remaining tread life. Over time, the cracking deepens and reaches the cords, compromising the tyre's structure and safety, necessitating replacement regardless of the remaining tread depth.
We recommend rotating your tyres as a preventative measure to maintain their overall health and extend their lifespan. By rotating your tyres, you can maximise their performance as they wear down.
Based on the findings, there is no indication of a manufacturing fault with the tyres in this instance.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries."
Everything I have found online points to getting them replaced soon rather than monitoring them until the chords are visible.
What is the point of lifetime guarantee that they gave me when I bought these that is still applicable. Probably fail MOT next year anyway.

5k miles a year isn't alot, if the tyres have been sitting in the sun for the last two years barely moving, I'm not surprised they have cracked.
If you garaged your car and put tyre dressing on regularly and they cracked that is different.
I am in Aberdeen, we don't get very much sun in Scotland :-) Car moves every day.If you garaged your car and put tyre dressing on regularly and they cracked that is different.

You'd think that as a company in the tyre business, they would know that it is NOT recommended to rotate tyres - eg. moving worn fronts the rear and the rears to the front. Nearly every tyre manufacturer recommends having the tyres with the most tread on the rear of the vehicle where possible.Gassing Station | Suspension, Brakes & Tyres | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
