I’m thinking I like the look of deeper side walls like on this yaris. I know they’re slicks

Is there any tyre that has more of that kind of style and / or what size could fit my 7.5j (I think) rims that look a bit more like that? I just like the look.

Current tyres are 205/45 17

The nice Yaris!

If you mean a taller sidewall then look to increase the aspect ratio. Changing to 205/50 17 will achieve this but will also raise gearing and change the accuracy of the speedo (it may actually make the speedo more accurate!). 205/55 17 will make even more of a visual and also a gearing change.

If you mean sidewalls which bulge out a bit from the rim then you need a wider tyre. Increase the first number, so fit a 215 or 225 instead of a 205. If you keep with a 45 aspect ratio then this will also increase the height of the sidewall. (The aspect ratio is sidewall height as a percentage of the width)

Will 16s fit over your brakes...if so 205 50 16 will give you the look you are after.

Have a play around with different sizes.

235/40/17 would add 30mm width while maintaining the same diameter.

Hi yeah I mean taller sidewall, not bulging out width wise

It has big brakes (it’s a JCW smokin ) so no 16” rims won’t fit!

To maintain the gearing, speedo accuracy, accelerative performance etc. the only way to increase the tyre sidewall depth is to go down in wheel size. If a smaller wheel will not fit, there is not much you can do.

Yeah I’m not bothered about that though

Difficulty is knowing if 50 or 55 ratio sidewall will fit / look alright!

You're wasting your time with black wheels.

Yeah that’s another question - do you think a change to dark bronze colour (same wheels just refinished) would look ok with car colour? I’m not too great a deciding things like that.

Bronze can work on some, but you can't go wrong with grey/silver.

A couple of point of note IMHO.

Looking at your 2 pics I think you will find the sidewall depth on yours & theirs is virtually identical, the wheel type makes it appear that you are looking at a taller sidewall.

I think you will find you can fit 16" wheels to your car, you may need a different wheel pattern but I am 99% certain that 16" wheels will fit & that WILL give you a bigger sidewall and the added benefit of a better ride.

You could choose a tyre which has a straighter sidewall like the Yokohama ad08 or whatever they are called these days.

Keep it simple...Michelin's usually have nice sidewalls.
