My front right tyre has picked up an unsightly bulge due to, I expect, hitting one of the 450 trillion potholes in the UK roads.

The current tyre is a Pilot Sport 2 235/3919 Y91 (N rated), currently £208.

Or I can can Pilot Sport 5 for £164 currently (not N rated)

Does it matter, mixing PS2 and PS5 on the same axle? The other three tyres are nowhere near needing replacement. I"m assuming you shouldn't mix but just want to check before I buy.

If it were me presented with those numbers, I would change both & keep the good one in case you need a replacement at the other end of the car.

It is never a good idea to mix tyre types on an axle.

I would do - but the rears are 275/35 not 235/55!

So it's either one PS2 or two PS5...!

I'd do the 2 PS5s, and if my experience of moving from PS2 to PS4 is anything to go by, you'll get twice the mileage out of the newer model, along with having matching, newer generation of grip/performance across the axle...all for just over £100 more.

How much life is left in the rears?

If the 5 is so much better than the 2, don't you risk a code brown with more grip in the front than the rear?

A lot of life in the rears; 5-6mm. I'm not especially concerned about having different tyres on different axles, particularly of the same make, just side to side. It's not a 930 Turbo that's going to be tempted to fling it's ass out on every roundabout, it's a 2.9 Cayman smile
