nankang tyres crack in 12 months

got a set of 2024 date coded nangkangs 12 months ago , mot man just showed me theyre cracking in between the treads lol

i know theyre budget tyres but wow

any chance demon tweeks will help me out on this ?

Yes it’s unusual - they may have been badly stored before your purchase, etc. ask Demon Tweeks and then the manufacturer.

Everybody raves about Michelin which obviously are not budget but I’ve never had a set that haven't cracked on the shoulders.

I’ve noticed Avon tyres are also prone for doing this. Dad has a set of ZV7’s fitted to his car and they’re starting to perish after 18 months. Not confidence inspiring!

I purchased a set of these and after a couple of years they had cracks between the tread, exactly like this.

yeah just cost you 3 times as much to throw them away , ffs tho a year , might have been 6 months if someone had checked before now

Avons and Dunlops do this too.

I've had BMW * rated Pirelli p7's now for several years and no issues so sticking with them for this very reason!

I've seen Michelin (Crossclimates) do the same after a couple of years, although I've also had them last 8 years without obvious issues; it's certainly not limited to budget tyres, it just seems rather random really!

Interesting thread! I once had avons (years ago) which had lots of cracking, and i thought i'd been sold some dodgy 10 year old tyres. No, they were <2 years old, but cracked in the treads just as above.

They were still fine mind and I didn't replace them, but this jogged my memory of them...

Before anyone says "It is UV damage" the car was parked in an underground garage and the tyres were correctly inflated.

Never had it on any other tyres and I inherited numerous Chinese brands on the sheds I have owned. I honestly think the Autogreens I had were better.

Was going to say atleast they're not Michelins

Atleast they usually last 2 or 3 years before cracking.

Yup, exactly that happening with them, and I’ve seen others doing it, too.

I can say the same about the Avons on my last car (ZV7 in my case too) started cracking in the same places at about 2 years old.
I did contact Avon, they could not have been more disinterested!
They said they could only do anything if I removed them and sent them to them to inspect (at my expense) and if they determined it was bad enough to affect the safety of the tyre, they would only refund a %age based on remaining tread.

Well they've lost a customer for life with that!
Not seen cracking like it before, even on ancient ditchfinders on other cars I've bought.

Although personally I wouldn't put p7s on a car I want to enjoy driving.

Hateful tyre on the V50 I had a few years ago.

Ditched a full set with 6mm all round within weeks of getting the car, terrible in the wet & abysmally low aquaplaning resistance.

You forgot to mention how unpredictable they are at low (but not sub-zero) temperatures. Will they grip or will they spin? Take your chances! Terrible tyres, put me right off Pirelli.

I didn't keep them on long enough to find out that one.

I was going to order a pair of Avon’s for the 182, but this has put me right off of them. They are £ cheap though and I’m selling the car anyway.
I previously had a pair of Michelin PS3s in a 15inch size on my other 182 that were cracking at 3 years old
I had a pair of Nankangs on the rear of my old Griff and they were superb, but sold it when they had been on there for only a few months so can’t comment re if they cracked. But I think Il go for these for the 182.
