Was going to take my car to a tyre place to change one of the tyres. Is it ever the case with old cars that the wheels just won't come off or it ruins the car removing it?

They wheel nuts can be hard to remove, especially if locking one has been trashed , usually by a tyre place!
But there is always a way.
They will manage.

You REALLY are over-thinking this.

Just take it there & let them do their job, what is the worst that can happen?

If you don't have the locking wheel nut, and the garage aren't very good, then possibly. But usually, no, a car's wheels come off and on for so many maintenance tasks it really shouldn't be an issue. And if it is an issue, there's going to be other stuff too.

What kind of car? Age?
