Starting tread depths are listed in the link above, but the ranged from 8.5mm for the Nokian Seasonproof 2, all the way down to 6.6mm for the Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport (normal CC3 was 7.5mm). Full list of starting tread depths (in the 225/40r18 size tested on the FWD Golf GTi ClubSport) below for those who want the TLDR.

Why arguments, most of us don't have the opportunity to sample across many brands and designs in comparable conditions.

I'd absolutely love the opportunity to do assessments similar to those Jon enjoys.

Me too, but I don't think I can drive consistently enough to make a career out of it - although I'd love for someone to pay for an Arctic circle snow-driving experience for me.
