Top mount query

Hi

I appreciate this is an obvious and basic question but I’ve assembled new shocks/springs/top mounts for my VW Caddy and I’m pretty sure everything is correct but I’m unable to turn the top mounts by hand. Whilst I appreciate that when fitted there will be a lot more force acting on them but the only reason I ask is that I’ve just done a similar job on my wife’s Skoda and they turned with a bit of force. I’m pretty new to replacing suspension so go easy on me!

Hey fellow caddy owner, I did mine last month too. Looking at your photo I can't see anything obviously wrong, I could twist my top mounts around into position off of the car but it did take a bit of effort, it didn't just spin round. Mine has lowering springs on it so I can imagine if yours is standard then the spring is putting more force on it.

Thanks Spaceman! Those are exactly the same Febi front shocks that I have, although my original plan was to lower it with 45mm springs I decided to keep it standard for now; it’s a 2008 with only 80k, and whilst mechanically it is great the bodywork is a bit ropey down one side so I don’t want to invest too much money on it at the moment.

Parts are really cheap though; a couple of times a month the eBay seller carpartsinmotion run discount codes which I use to pick up what I need. I really enjoy learning as I go…so far I’ve done the clutch/dmf, timing belt, exhaust, wheel bearings, brakes (discs/pads/calipers), rear suspension etc. The van is worth very little but I love it!

That's a nice looking one, low miles too

I love caddies, best little vans I've ever had. My little 1.6 is well over 200k miles and is still flying along, so easy to work on and loads of parts available. Random gratuitous photo..
