Hi all,

Im purchasing some 7.5jx18 wheels, and just wondering if 235 width tyres would be ok??

My current tyre size is 225/55/16 and was thinking of 235/40/18 any probs?? could I go wider at all??

Thanks in advance.

What sort of car and what will you be mainly doing with it, racing, track days or road?
For racing and track days the tyre tread should be narrower than the wheel width. For road use 235's should be OK as this will give a better ride. I wouldn't go wider than 235 with 7.5j wheels though and 225 would be better.

It's a Lexus GS300, so road only.

Thanks for your reply.

The 235/40/18's are more common than 225/45/18's, hence cheaper but not much in it, so will probably go 225 if it's better.

Thanks again.

Could you not get some 8 or 9Js and fit the wider tyres?

I could, but the wheels I brought came up at such a bargain I couldn't resist.
The standard width is 225 and it's not too bad with them.

Thanks again.

I've got 225/40x18 tyres on 8x18 rims so, I'd say 225/40x18 on 7.5x18 rims would be even better, or the 225/45x18 if that's suits your desired rolling diamter better.

You should check the load ratings you need for a heavy Lexus, most, if not all 225/40x18 tyres don't have a load index greater than 92, so if you need higher you may be forced to go to 235 which you can get in 95 rating.
