Which brake choice - Range Rover
Discussion
I need to change the rotors and pads on my 4.6HSE Range Rover. Yep - I can hear you all laugh....
So track days are out of the question. At the moment they have the OEM rotors and a set of very poor Mintex pads which do nothing but squeel - they don't even help stop the car much. I've had a look at the rotors and the front and rear are OK but may need replacement mainly because they are badly scored. The rears are much worse than the fronts.
Anyway, I spent a few days looking into brakes and brake upgrades. It has been suggested that I use either Lockheed Delphi rotors and pads or EBC. There was mention of Brembo front rotors and Rossini (see article - www.carpages.co.uk/news/performance-brake-discs-25-03-05.asp ) but no-one seems to know too much about the Brembo and the Rossini rotors may not be worth the extra.
So I guess what I'm asking is - Are EBC worth the extra money or can anyone hold their hand up and say that a pair of Brembo or Rossini rotors are worth tracing because they are better quality than EBC?

personally i wouldn't bother with EBC disks. i've killed a set in no time on a discovery, and have never really rated them on any of the cars i've tried. I did fit delphini's and they weren't bad. not much improvement over standard but you rarely get an improvement with disks. as for Pads i can't remember what i used. EBC's pads are pretty good these days, certainly better than their disks are. Mintex and ferodo are a personal favourite of mine, whether it be on my 180mph car, or my 110mph 4x4 so to speak. they're very good.
just to point out (sorry if i'm teaching your granny to suck eggs, its not intended) that pads will always make a big difference to the feel of the braking system, where a set of disks rarely will.

I've run Rossini on my 156 Alfa, with standard Alfa pads. They were cheaper than genuine Alfa ones and looked much sexier hence fitting them.
As for improvement not sure they gave any but they sure looked good. As others have said pads make by far the biggest difference, now running EBC in the 944 & they're better than the OEMs that were on it.

I've been hunting down a set of Brembo discs but havn't been able to find them. On several US websites they have them listed at around US$250 a pair. EBC appear to be the easiest to get and I have been given a very competitive price for rotors and pads.
Just not sure if I should get the EBC groved rotors or a set of standard Lockheed rotors for use with EBC's DP71037 & DP61038 pads.

I've just joined this site so don't know if this info's a bit late for you but I work for Land Rover and Jaguar and the Sport uses Brembo's on the factory fit car and I know all the test guys who've helped develop it over the years swear by them.

They're both pretty good.
