any help please my brakes hang from abouve so the cylinders are higher than the front of the car , im looking at mounting reservoir at the back of the car and running long pipes , see attached pic , can anyone else see a prob with this will i end up with air locks ??? going up and down, there is veryy little room under the dash , could have integral reservois if so are these sva compliant ??
many thanks see attached pic cheers stu www.asci24.dsl.pipex.com/brakes-question%20(Medium).jpg

Due to the length of the pipe I would make it larger diameter than normal so there is no restriction to flow. It will not matter where the res. is as long as it is higher than the master cyl. Mr. SVA may want that pipe in a stronger material than the normal soft rubber pipe used. I would run clutch size copper or ridged plastic pipe for most of the route with rubber at each end.

I have floor mounted master cylinders and my resovoirs are mounted around the diff at the rear. I use 3/16" (I think, its the size you normally use on clutchs) PTFE braided hose to feed them. I have had no problems even though I was told going up hills would be a problem because then the resovoirs would be lower than the master cylinders.
You can see the caps of the resovoirs in this picture.

Thanks for your reply John,
Can i ask why you ended up having to mount ur reservoirs in the rear of the car?
also were do you buy ur pipe from for the reservoirs.
I have been told many conflicting things concerning rear mounting.
I guess the main prob i can see is bleeding the ststem, and i guess that can be solved using a pressureized bleed system?
this is the responce i got on locostbuilders forum ..... www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=50170
thanks again stu

Stu,
I mounted my resovoirs at the rear for one reason. I was (am) obsessed with weight distribution (it is free handleing). So everything went as far rearwards, as low and towards the centre of the car as possible. My horn is also mounted around the diff, all pipes and wires run down the centre of the car on the inside of the chassis rail and I even considered which way I put each bolt in.
I have had no problems bleeding my system and it has been reliable with a rock solid pedal. I use twin AP 60 degree off set master cylinders (can mount them lower!) with Tilton balance bar and Ap remote resovoirs with bellow caps. The bellow caps keep the air (and dirt) seperate from the brake fluid but still allow expansion. I have discs front and rear (AP 4 pots, Sierra rear)
I bought my plumbing from Think Automotive (and a few items they dont do from Earls).
The Locost forum is good but you have to know what advice to believe......I hope you understand!
