Springs and Dampers or Just Springs
Discussion
Hi,
I have a Ford Puma and am planning on lowering it, the question is do I get springs and dampers or just springs. Im going to go for about a 30mm drop all round and was planning on getting Eibach Springs and Blisten dampers which are offered from Pumaspeed for £265 similar set up to what is found on the Racing Puma and these lower the car 30mm. But I have also seen just Eibach springs on Pumabuild for £115 which lower the front by 20mm and back by 30mm.
I heard somewhere that aslong as you dont lower the car over 30mm you can get away with just using springs, this is probably a load of rubbish but my knowledge on this type of thing is very limited so sorry for my naivety.
Thanks

i think the springs you're on about are eibach pro kit springs. these springs have been designed to be used with either the standard dampers or a slightly uprated damper. the actual spring rate isnt much more than the standard spring rate so the ride quality is kept in that way.
as mentioned, the springs are designed to be used with or without uprated dampers. BUT, if its bilstein sport dampers you're looking at buying, then all i can say is get them. you cant get a better damper for the money and they work extremely well with the eibach springs.

its not so much rubbish actually. you can get away with a small ish drop on most dampers. the problem being when the car is lowered TOO much and the standard damper length(be they aftermarket or standard) is retained, there will be greatly reduced suspension travel range. so you end up having to go around bumps etc so you dont bottom the suspension out or hit the bump stops too often.
even with a stiffer spring rate, reduced travel can be a problem.
