Making steering lighter at parking speed?
Discussion
my girlfriend got a ford escort MK5 without power steering, she say steering wheel is too heavy at parking speed, when turning around etc. It was my girlfriend's first car.
that car run on 185/60?/14" its wider wheel and smaller diameter which doesnt help but, so it helped in handling, and accerlation conisderably, being it's 1.4, which dont have any power steering.
I thinking about upping tyre pressure to somewhere like 40psi on front to aid her at parking speed.
is there any good idea that can make car's parking speed easier?
I dont want to buy other car though.... Maybe in 2-3 years time though.

Upping pressures above manufacturers recommended is a bad idea. At best you'll wear out the centre of the tyres and at worst you run a higher risk of having a blow out! Best to make sure tyre pressures are all within spec (maybe they are on the low side anyway?) and get the geometries checked and make sure all bushes and suspension components are in good order. Retro-fitting PAS is probably over the top and caster is probably not adjustable so make sure everything is working as it should and buy some earplugs
She's just a woose who's not used to it. Tell her to stop trying to turn the front wheels while the car is static (it'll wear the balljoints out quickly too) and to drive the car forward or backwards while turning the wheel instead. My 4 foot 11 dwarf sister managed fine without power steering by driving the car properly.
