My 2000 Boxster S has started making a loud creaking noise from the front right wheel region, I'm assuming it's something to do with the suspension. It is most noticable when pulling away or going over dodgy surfaces on the road. It can also be created by pushing down firmly on the body work above the front right wheel.

I did ground the nose recently, and I've had a look under the car, but the scarring from it seems to stop about a foot and a half away from any of the suspension conponents.

Does anybody have any ideas about what this might be?

Not familiar with the Boxster, but creaking suspension is often down to worn bushes or anti-roll bar drop links. Sometimes they're not even worn enough to have any obvious play in them - just enough to creak!

Can be a common problem on some cars (front drop links on Mk2 MR2 for example) so might be worth checking with Porkophiles to see if it happens a lot with Boxsters.

Could be a torn gaiter on a suspension or roll bar bush, as dirt gets in and the associated vibration causes an audible creak. Alternatively could be a broken spring. These normally break near the ends which I think are the most highly loaded parts. You can pick up a mechanics stethascope from halfords for about a fiver which makes tracing the problem a lot easier.

I've been told it could be the worn arms are knackered, this was by a local specialist who said they see the problem all time. It's not supposed to be damaging, but will cost about £680 to repair both sides.

Think I'm going to live with it for now as the front pads and discs need sorting and 3 tyres are on the way out... frown

There is certainly no knocking, I've been told it's not damaging is this right? I'm tempted to finish off the tyres and discs that need changing soon on the track and just need to be sure that I'm not going to be putting myself or the car under any extra stress!
