OK so while rotating the tyres on my Mazda MX3 last w/e I discovered that the shock absorber rubber gaiters are completely shot.

Anyone know if this has any implications on the life of the shocks, and should they be replaced? Alternatively should I grease the shocks further or similar?

Having had a good look, they don't currently seem to be suffering. But obviously I'd like to extend their life as long as possible!

Most cars do not have gaiters on the shocks so I would not worry about it.
If I were going to expend the effort required to fit new gaiters I would want to do the shocks at the same time.
Do not grease. Whatever you use may not be compatible with the shocker seal rubbers.

Thanks very much! I'll just not worry about it then. They still look shiny and work fine!
