Wheel bearing or not!?
Discussion
Hi,
I have a citroen ZX and have had the front shocks replaced about a week and a half ago. Everything has been fine until the other day i was driving a long and it sounded like some falling off/coming apart under the car but there was nothing in the road when i looked in the mirror. Since then i have had a dry squeaking noise from the front RHS wheel - this side had the worn suspension strutt. The sound speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car. At a higher speed of around 70mph it just sounds like a hollow metallic scoring sound. I have taken the wheel off and checked the brakes which i had done about 3 weeks ago and they are all fine. The only thing i did notice was that both the Brake disc retaining screws have sheared and the disc is held in place by the wheel bolts. On replacing the wheel and spinning it around, it only squeaks when near to the brake pads. I have checked the wheel to see if there is any play in the bearing (car was jacked) and there is no movement, however hard i try and make it :O). I wonder if there is some muck behind the brake disc and hub that has caused the disc to rub up against the pads. The noise happens whether i am travelling in a straight line or turning, but does not completely go when braking - hence i started to think Bearing....but i dont get any rumbling noise and no vibrations up through the steering column. Any ideas? Something has given up the ghost and i am at a loss to what it maybe.
Thanks,
Neil.
