Suspension strut to work in tension

As the title says - a suspension strut, ie. spring/damper unit, as commonly used on motorcycle rear suspension, but designed to be used in tension instead of compression.

Anyone know if such things exist? A mate assures me that they do but googling tension strut and variants just produces an unhelpfully large number of references to some other suspension part which operates in tension and can be called a strut.

Intended application is motorcycle suspension, with the strut underslung beneath the engine/transmission unit and operated by a short downward projection at right angles from the end of the swing arm.

Pigeon, Google for "Pull Shock" that's what we call them in the mountain bike industry....

They use them on motorcycles too, invented by Mert Lawill, IIRC, a former motorcycle racer turned mountain bike designer/racer. He used to work for Yeti Bikes, not sure if he is still there.

Take a look at the front suspension arrangement on the Issigonis Lightweight Special from the 1930's if you can find it on the internet (or in any of the biographies on Issigonis).

It's a very clever, light and easily adjustable variant of the arrangement you are suggesting, so you might find it interesting.
