When stripping the original Bilstein shocks from my Chimaera I noticed that the bolts were a very loose fit in the shock ends and will be the same in the replacements.I think the bolts are original too.
Is this normal or should the bolts be a snug fit?
Having said all this, I never noticed any knocking or other noises from the suspension.

From memory, the Chimaera used 7/16" UNF bolts for the damper eyes. It's possible that the your dampers have 1/2" holes in them for some reason. They're not supposed to be an interference fit by any means but the bolts shouldn't be particularly loose.

Check someone has not put metric bolts in cos they were too lazy to source the proper ones wink Not sure the above is correct IIRC damper bolts are 1/2" UNF and wishbone bolts are 7/16" UNF ?, if the damper bushes are still sloppy replace them just like your wishbone bushes.

Yes, the damper eyes are 1/2". It seems like whoever fitted them used the same bolts as for the wishbones, 7/16. rolleyes
