Geometry specialist (Mercedes?) in Cheshire
Discussion
Hi all,
Just got the new car (SL55) and the handling doesn't feel spot on to me - the offside rear feels like it wants to step out as soon as you touch unevenness on the road - there's a real "wobble" to it on that corner. Had a Merc specialist (that doesn't do alignments) concur and check that all bushes/other replaceable bits are all sorted. He agreed on the geometry diagnosis and recommended a place to get it sorted - only it's particularly expensive and a long trip (i.e. a day off work job).
Managed to get a typical laser alignment place to run off a report on it, and the camber looks particularly out on one rear corner and the toe on the other. So I think we've found the culprit... only when they lifted her up it appears some non-standard bolts that need a large spline-bit or similar (i.e. typical socket/bit /torx set won't cut it). Looked to be about a 14mm, 20 teeth type affair from memory. ...The upshot - they couldn't do the alignment there.
So, I'm needing to find somewhere just south of Manchester - the nearer Knutsford the better (Altrincham, Warrington, Macclesfield, ideally) that's got the tools for this, and is good on geometry. I'd rather not go to the local Merc dealer as they'll no doubt try to sell me a whole new set of springs + dampers.
Anybody know of any good specialists in the area?
