Just got a 1.9GTI for a bit of track racing. Problem is I need some brakes for it. I am new to the whole track scene so don't want to go mad with spending money as I will hopefully upgrade in the summer to something faster.

I saw these on ebay last night and wanted to know whether they are any good or if anyone has suggestions on what I should get. I already have a set of Mintex pads so just need the discs.

You'd be far better off just getting some standard discs from buypartsby.com

What compound of Mintex pads are they?

I had those exact discs, they wore down very quickly and warped after a particularly hot lap of the 'ring.
Went back to standard discs, and I couldn't tell the difference. I use Mintex 1144 pads for road and track, with standard discs. Car is standard weight (incl. power steering) and I've never, ever had brake fade on the standard discs.
Only weak point has been the master cylinder, I blew the seals on a standard one, so now use a larger 405 one.

Id be tempted to go to 1155's or 1166's with good brake fluid, frequent bleeding and some air ducting if you can.
I ran 1177's in a 205 tarmac rally car for a year. Great pads but did eat discs for fun...
You could go for Ferodo DS2500 or 3000...great pads.

Another vote for Mintex 1144's on standard discs. Never had any problems on road or track with them - and loads of feel too.
