I've recently replaced all 4 tyres (with new, exactly same make and type). When travelling at a decent pace I've noticed a vibration through the steering wheel, which turns into more of a judder at just over 70mph. This was not noticable before. I'm thinking wheel balancing needs checking? Any thoughts?

If you get them re-balanced and it keeps vibrating i suggest swapping the wheels around, might get rid of it. Might even be worth trying that first before shelling out for re-balancing

Take them back to the garage and get the fronts rebalanced. I'd have thought they'd do it for free.

It's funny you should say 70mph. My wheels were out of balance and the car seemed fine below 70. Almost as soon as you approached 70 the steering wheel started vibrating in a low frequency oscillatory manner, kind of a 'bob-a-bob-a-bob-a-bob'-type thing.

The wheels are now balanced and I can happily exceed 70, not that I do you understand :-)

Thanks for replies.

Update: The fitter re-balanced both front wheels today, reduced one wheel by 5g, the other balanced the same. I don't see how 5g can make a differnece, but when driven it seems fine. Maybe slight vibration still at 75mph, but probably me just being sensitive to it. Maybe just taking on/off the wheels has made a difference.
