info needed on suspension components
Discussion
Hi could somebody please explain the various parts of the suspension set up, and what exactly they do or prevent from happening?
Basically i could do with an explanation of exactly what the job is of:
springs
dampers
anti-roll bars
drop links
sway bay
ball link
anything else you can think of
Im about to get a car for trackdays and hillclimbing / sprints and from reading the build diaries of others realise that these things are v important but not sure EXACTLY what they do or what they make better etc!
Also, any advise on camber, caster and toe in / out would be really apreciated and what i need to adjust it.
Cheers

google should answer most of your questions
briefly: springs hold car up, resist roll
damper: controls movement of wheels contols acceleration of wheel in bump and rebound
antiroll bar = sway bar does exactly what it say on the tin, connects the 2 wheels on each axle and resits roll
drop links connect antiroll bar to suspension parts
ball joint is a type of joint that allows rotation in all directions, normally connect steering arm to upright/strut
