Hi.

My wife's car mazda 323 (2003)2.0L Sport.
Has develeped a sticking OS front brake caliper.
I have striped the pads and sliders out & cleaned & copper greased them.
But still sticking on after applying the brakes,
On further investigation they is signs of corrosion behind the piston seal.

My queston is.

Is it ok to push them out & clean them & refit, should they be replaced or fit a new caliper ?

Thanks for any input

John

I'm not sure it is even possible to remove and replace the seals and besides do you really want to take a risk with your brakes? Get a new caliper. They are only £100-£110 from Euro car parts.

Its ctually quite commen to strip and rebuild brake callipers with new seals, certainly on more motor-sport orientated callipers. Just beware that anything more than very light pitting of the cyclinder surface can cause fluid sealing problems.

Its certainly do-able, but you will need to take a judgement based on the condition you find.

And yes, yan can just pull them apart (or scre apart if necesarry) and press them back together by hand.

I didn't know that. I assumed you wouldn't be able to get the seal back in properly.

You learn something new everyday thumbup

remove the piston and clean off the rust/deposits using wood or similar (not metal) then clean with rag and brake fluid. If the piston ends up with a clean chrome finish with no pitting then it can be put back (the brake fluid acts as a lubricant) if pitted then either new piston or exchange caliper required.
