Hi Everyone
Well my hillman hunter has seen better days and new shocks all round are required. The rear dampers were easyenough to find as they are generic (allmoast) but im having great trouble finding front replacement shocks. They dont have to be exact copies, ie: if MK1 escort struts will fit, they will do, but im not sure about what else will fit.
Here are some pictures of the shocks along with a couple measurements i have taken...
uncomperssed length- 28"
Compressed length- 23"
3 bolt top cap

Is the damper not a separate part from the strut assembly? I'd be surprised if you had to replace the entire strut/upright/stub axle. Take the spring off and check for a ring/sleeve nut at the top of the damper body.

I removed the damper earlier, but because it had been leaking oil for a long time (presumably) the internals were completely dry and worn to hell frown the damper wasn't a completely separate system unfortunately

Nope all one piece the same as an escort or cortina or anglia etc.
They could be refurbed, have a chat to Leda (if still around) or Gaz or SPAX, they should be able to strip & refurb. Otherise R Grimes used to have all the Rootes spares in the UK they may have some new ones.

Thanks For all the help guys. After pulling apart the other shock to find it was just as bad, if not worse i got on the interweb and found a set of Adjustable Spax shocks for the hillman.
Ill put some pics up when im done and say if there any good just in-case anyone else has this problem?
