Hey

Took my car for an MOT last Friday at Qwikfit. It failed on a front brake embalance of 30%. So they recommended one of their free brake checks to check condition of the pads/discs (Even though I was sure they were fine because I had only replaced them 2/3months before the test).

Anyhow they found the discs and pads to be in fine condition and with plenty of material left on both. The only thing he could see was maybe the pads were getting seized and sticking on. So I let him reseat the front pads.

Went back for a retest and it has failed again with the same embalance. I also this time got a printout and the values are as follows:

Test 1
Front N/S - 91 kgf, max - 202 kgf
Front O/S - 63 kgf, max - 183 kgf

Test 2
N/S - 66 kgf, max - 187 kgf
O/S - 45 kgf, max - 146 kgf

The guy who had checked all my brakes was wary of the uprated components on the braking system; Brembo Max discs, EBC Green Stuff pads and Stainless Steel Braided brake lines. He tried to say that it was them and to get me into fit standard brakes and try them.

I normally do all the work on my car. But I'm currently away at university so have no tools or area to carry out work.

My question relates to any checks/test I could conduct to rule out components one by one. As I believe it can't be the uprated components considering they are less than 3months old.

My first check when I go home this weekend is to strip down the brakes and clean everything up (wire brush) along with bleeding the system.

Iv wondered if there are any test kits to check brake line pressure, so that I can rule out the hydraulic braking system. Iv seen some from USA but none supplied in the U.K.

Thanks

Just check that the brake piston is not seized . Also check the pins are moving freely and grease them up.

What is embalance?

I think its imbalance. PH spelling matters wink
