Anyone got a reasonably accurate figure for the cost of having a brake line replaced (front to rear) on a 205GTi, please? I've got my eye on an upgrade or two but failed it's MOT on the brake line so need to budget accordingly. What do you :chinnyrecon: ?

The pipe itself should be less than £5. Then they'll charge something like 1 or 2 hours labour to fit

Good man, thanks - not bad but may well put that on the list of things to learn, sure the other pipes will be on their way out too.

If its a 1.9 it will have two pipes,n/s & o/s with an inline regulator each side, and on a 1.6 they run down the n/s and the regulator is at the front. To do the job properly and run the pipes through the original route and clips the fuel tank has to be lowered. To replace all the pipes from the joiner by the front subframe to each corner is a lot of work as everything you touch will be rusty and siezed so it would be difficult to quote 3-4hrs labour,10ft copper piping, unions, brake fluid.Horrible job and not cheep.

Ah... 1.6 it is. The only 'plus' point is, the car's looks like it's had persistent oil/grease leaks from:

a) CV boot/s
b) Diff seals
c) Somewhere Else (Near The Distributor)

- meaning everything underneath is pretty well protected from rust; so hopefully all may not be terminally seized. Actually got it booked in now, was quoted 'about £120' which seems about right. Thanks for the info.

Thats a good price, just make sure it inc` parts & VAT ? and the word "about" does not mean another £100?
TIP,let them have the car with an empty fuel tank (just). They will love you if its full to brim.

Why empty the fuel tank? I don't understand...
If you read this very short thread you will learn why.
