im starting the process of building a track car with the intention to race it a few times if i can get the budget there. its going to be road legal but all it will do is drive me between my uni house and family home. im not intending it to be a minter by any means but i dont want it to be an embarrassment either as i work in motorsport and doing a degree in motorsport. it needs a respray after rust treatment so i was thinking of a colour change to white, something like the newer audi's. for cheapness i was thinking stock up on halfords rattle cans, if im patient enough will this be likely to give a good result? or am i better off buying a cheap compressor and gun and having a go at that? i build race engines i dont do bodywork, how hard is the spraying to pick up by yourself?

I painted a whole wing and bumper with rattle cans, it wasn't cheap as white doesn't cover too well and the wing used to be black!

The finish is fine if you spend long enough on the prep but to do a whole car would take a couple of dozen cans, you could probably get a better quality blowover for that money!

Brush paint it then spend some time sanding it flat with ever finer grades of wet and dry.

I did a whole car years ago, but it cost me a bomb in cans. It didn't seem to dear at first as I did a panel at a time. In the end I bought a cheap electric spray gun and redid it. Later on I bought a compressor and redid it again. smile The recent compressor I bought only cost £60 from Lidl of all places and I think machine mart do cheap spray gun sets...might work out cheaper even if they aren't of high quality and don't last very long.

As a sprayer I would say buy a cheap compressor and spraygun, it will work out less than all the cans you will need for a respray.

how about vehicle wrapping then? you can get kits on ebay for similar sort of money to just buying the spray equipment. if you take your time can it be done half decently?
