So, could someone on here give me a decent link to a polisher pack (machine, polishing heads etc). I've seen a few on E-Bay etc but maybe there are better deals elsewhere!

Kestral DAS-6 D/A is a good starter - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/d...

Would agree with R500POP have had my Kestrel for about 15 months and as an occasional (very) amateur user have found it to be very good, clean your car get a highly recommended from me too great service and very helpful.

I have both a DA & a rotary Kestrel, both about 3years old, both still 100% top working order.

Ok, thanks for your replies. 1 at £20 odd quid 1 over £150! I was looking for something in the middle! (My Mrs is gonna buy it for me!) Is this any good:

Just so you realise, the previous link to the DAS-6 PRO included a kit of polishing heads, so you could get the polisher on it's own for less if you already have some heads (unlikely I guess) or want to buy them yourself to save your wife. smile

Seems to be the recommended one on Detailing world, fancy on myself as I currently have a really heavy rotary polisher that has a single speed.

This is the older version of the DAS-6 PRO, a bit cheaper than the PRO you if you can still get it.....

But, by the time you buy a selection of pads and polish, you may as well go for one of the complete DAS-6 PRO kits mentioned above.

I personally went for a random orbit polisher like the Kestrel as it removed the worry of too much heat build up on the panel and the chance of ruining the paintwork I would be working on.
If you decide to go for a rotary would recommend practicing on a scrap panel before working on your pride and joy.
I am sure others will be along to tell you it is not a problem but I preferred to be safe rather than sorry and out of pocket for an unnecessary paint repair.

so very true - with PRACTICE the rotary is faster but you can 'burn' paint easily

if its just for personal use then has to be a dual action in my opinion

I'm quite lucky that I have kept all the gear from my Pro detailing days.

Depends how often you use it, I would always use Festool.

Festool is nice, but not £400 nice.

DA is meguairs, old school porta cable or DAS (I have all of the above).

Depending on car your doing, Lake Country pads, MF pads or meguairs pads all seem to last for me. Some of the cheaper ones I have tried dont last at all.

i use a makita and just sold my old Flex machine DA machines are slow and inefective for the most they make hard work ,no pro would realy use a DA buffer for other than very delicat angles and maybe final deswirling

i also use a Fein Multitask oscilating tool which will get under door latches and wont burn through anything ,its like an assisted hand buff for realy tight areas and superd for desweirling due to its oscilating action

kestral are cheap and noisy and in a bodyshop wouldnt last long at all ,one of the best deals out there actualy seems to be the 3M buffers ,sealey have gone to st lately and now use cheap motors hence thier cheap prices but they are backed up well in the UK

if you want cheap then go to B&Q becouse you often get a three year no quible warenty and when they replace it the warrenty starts all over again so it wont matter if its crap or not anyway

a cheaper alternative to the Fein is the Bosch multi tool at about £90 ish again B&Q do those

further if your concerned about burning through then fit your buffer with 3" SMART repair pads ,as the outer rim speed is dramaticaly reduced per RPM then they will not burn through like a 6" pad tends to if your not carefull
basic gearing principle ;-)

and believe it or not the job wont be much if any slower than using a 6" pad anyway

its rare i use my larger pads nowadays especialy for my bikes and crash repairs
