Fibreglass preparation and painting

My Noble is glass (epoxy I think) and I want it to be painted to best standard I can...
The body has had a few mods blended into the body so whats the best prep method, fill low points with epoxy and sand down or skim whole thing in filler and sand...
As std the body seemed to have quite a bit of filler to get shut lines etc perfect, the finish was very good and held up well with no sinking or cracks... so is the skim with filler the way to go as I used to think filler sinks on FG?
Of cause a paint shop will be doing the painting, but I want to know how the mods should be blended in and what questions to ask as I will get quotes from a few garages.
