Key Scratch - bodyshop or smart repair?
Discussion
hi i have been a painter for nearly seven years and i am currently working as a smart repairer. Smart repairers have a bad reputation due to semi skilled people coming in to the trade and producing shocking jobs and i have seen many my self and i think how do they get away with producing a job like that and did they even get payed for it? my neighbour had a smart repair done by chips away last year. it took him 6 hours to finish a little scratch on the rear quarter panel and i could see the repaired area from my sons bedroom window and thats some one whos payed to come into a multi million pound franchise that cant do the job. ( he was a ex joiner by the way) so my advise is is you have a smart repair done is choose some one with a gud reputation and bodyshop experiance as the motor trade is all word of mouth so ask your local garage for a reccomendation

i work in the body shop for 35years ,and we have a section that do smart repair, they do a good job ,But there's only so much you can do .For a smart repair,Not knocking smart repair .It keeps the cost down, and that's whats it all about. But there are people out there spoiling it for you good smart repairer es
yh i agreee there is only so much a smart repaier can do and the idea is a cheap repair but some smart repairers are just a joke and like you said just spoil it for people like me trying to find work cos the trust has been lost by a large selection of our customers. i have also seen better jobs come from a smart repair than a body shop.
we all agree in the body shop that smart repair and sales work is the way things are going.People do not want to pay there access any more ,they rather pay and get it smart repaired, its the way thing are going ,more and more body shops are closing. at the moment out of 40hours work i'm lucky to get in 30 hours work. The insurance companies are killing body shops.
exactly i worked for toyota in ther bonus body shop 9 months later i was made redundant which forced me in to smart repair and i have recently started my own business and all is going well at the min
at toyotas body shop thers only work in there at the min because of thr recent riots but once that batch of work as gone then they will all be bak on basic pay. smart repair is the way forward as long as rough and semi skilled painters come short of work and have to give it up.
