As above really.

I'm after a decent pressure washer, i bought one from halfords a while back and it didn't last very long.

Ideally a kit that comes with everything i need to give my car some snow foam goodness.

Over to you PH, i'm counting on you.

I hear Karcher is pretty good for pressure washers.

You might get a better response from the bodywork and detailing section of the forum.

You know - i looked through all the sections and seem to have missed that bit entirely! I'll post in there now. I@ll also have a look at the outlet options.

Mods - feel free to shift.

Also, can someone explain what one i need? All i want to do is to be able to snow foam the car / bike and clean the driveway.

For example:

Thats what I use, and a snow foam container from CYC clean your car. its better than the nozzle that draws the shampoo in on the Karcker washers.

Karchers are notorious for breaking just outside their 12 month warranty. They are plastic inside and mine did exactly that.

I bought a Nilfisk (with metal impellor) and it's been faultless.

Very true. I have had 3 Karchers and got less than 2 years out of any of them. The insides are designed to fail imho. Can`t fault their lances though.

So now I have a Halfords 2000 series (heavy as hell and alloy inside which you can strip down with basic tools) mated to a Karcher hose and lance. Works a treat!

Yep, have been through two of them in just over two years and won't be buying a third. I have since gathered that their industrial stuff is significantly higher quality, the consumer stuff just trades off the name.

I'm half looking out for a new one as soon as I can afford a decent one again, so as recommendations go here, my ears are open.

Nilfisk all the way and remember to release the pressure out of the lance even if leaving it for a minute, and it'll last forever...

OK, so maybe karcher isn't the best idea.

WHat about fitments of other makes? Someone mentioned using one brand of washer but karcher lances, are they all universal?

OTOH I've had the same budget Karcher for nearly ten years, used every couple of months to clear a slow running drain we inherited and to clear a patio. Never missed a beat, so not everything you hear on the internet is right, oh wait...

In fairness, I did use mine a lot more than that, to the point where I now realise I should have spent proper money on industrial kit anyway instead of the top line of consumer stuff where it crosses over.

I'm not sure what the deal is, as I've heard of rarely used machine biting the dust too.

I do wonder if frost is the reason, I've heard of Karcher pumps fracturing in frosty conditions, mine lives in a garage that I doubt reaches freezing point.

Just buy one from Costco - it's effectively guaranteed for ever.

Choice is a bit random though, but last time I was in my local branch (Chester) they had absolutely hundreds of a couple of different Karcher models.

I though that as the first one lived outside all winter (having made sure it was as free of water as it could be first), worked for a short while thereafter, then died. It's replacment made it through summer, lived indoors throughout winter and still died not long into the following spring/summer (last year). So I did the patio by hand a few weeks back. Never again hehe
