I have some light scratches on the side of my car and a few other bits around the car. With the car being black it shows more than others would.

I tried t-cut today and faded them a bit but need a specialist paint restorer

Any recomendations?

I was wondering about the 'black' colour restores but wasnt sure if it would make it a slightly different shade or not rather than the specialist scratch removers.

I used some Maguires scratch remover. I was utterly amazed at the results. I had tried with T-cut with no luck but the Maguires did the job within seconds.
I'll try and find it.

You will have to rub like crazy though. The Megs Ultimate compound is slightly more agressive and works well by hand.

If you reduce the scratches enough a coating of Poor Boys black hole will help to disguise them further. Then use a sealant or wax over the top.

Farecla G3 is great at removing scratches. It is a proper bodyshop compound.

If you're looking for a polish, then Autoglym Super Resin Polish works very well. You need to make some effort to get the results, though.

Invest in a machine polisher. The polish you use is not as important as how it is applied.

This.

My mate owns a Garage and gave me a bottle, it works wonders

Most products used by hand will "fill" the scratches rather then removing them. You could use an aggressive compound like G3 but this leave its own finer scratches on the paint work marring it slightly. Ideally you would want to refine with a less aggressive polish afterwards.
As already mentioned, the best way to remove scratches is with rotary machine and applying the polish properly. The actual product used is less important. £50 and few hours looking at some online tutorials (and obviously assuming you are patient and take plenty of care) you will achieve much better permanent results.
