Hi,

I'm hoping for some advice before I make my first attempt at detailing the Z; current plan is as follows:

- Rinse then wash (Megiures gold/lambswool mit/two buckets)
- Clay bar then rinse & dry
- Paint clean (Meguires deep crystal)
- Stage 1 polish (Autoglym super resin)
- Stage 2 polish (Autoglym extra gloss protection)
- Finish with Megiures tech-wax

My main questoins are 1. is this the rihgt order to be doing it all in ? and 2. do I need the Autoglym EGP AND the tech-wax or should I replace the EGP with another coat of super resin polish ?

Thanks in advance!
Charlie

Personally I'd stick with washing the car, claying it, Super Resin Polish followed by Extra Gloss or even HD Wax.

If you put the time in with that lot your car will look fantastic, especially if it has never been done before smile

IMO Deep Crystal is for very bad paintwork and could cause you more frustration than anything else.

Personally I would lose the Meguiars gold and just use their Shampoo Plus and buy it in larger quatities for better savings.

Gold - 1.86l £15.95
Plus - 3.78l £19.95

That site is good for other detailing stull, I recommend it.

I'm impressed with AutoGlym HD wax, easy to apply and remove and it last well too. If the car has never been clayed before, that is an important step and you'll be amazed how smooth the paintwork can become.

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk is often cheaper and quicker at sending stuff out than the site mentioned above.

OP - what you have proposed sounds good to me but it will take a hell of a lot of time to do all those steps! Also, make sure the car is as clean as possible before you use the clay - you dont want to be grinding it over lose dirt.

Out of interest, what is "the Z"?

I imagine it's a 350Z? Or a Z4? Z3M? Z8? Z06? Citroen ZX? Honda CR-Z? Zafira?

350Z - sorry, 'z' is very ambiguous! I've put aside c.6hrs with a buddy of mine so we're going to do both cars (he has a Mini JCW); we can be doing one car while the other dries/cures etc so hopefully that will make the time go more quickly. Having said that, throw in a couple of beers and some good car chat and the time will fly by!

Thanks for all the comments and links, it's a big help. I'll be careful with the paint cleaner; advice has been to apply then remove straight away so I'll er on the side of caution.

Personally, I have and would never have anyone help me clean my car. They may not do it to my standards so, I always do it on my own knowing that a cock-up is mine and a good job done is mine, how I like it.

No real need for both EGP and a wax.
If you do, you'll need to leave at least 24 hours before putting the wax over it.
Similarly Meg's Cleanser, and SRP - one or other depending on paintwork, and condition.
SRP has a lot of filling power, as well as abrasion to knock back light swirling. Hard paints will be quite arduous to abrade by hand with it, so you might need something more suitable if that's what you're using it for mainly.
Otherwise use for masking solely.

If you've not bought the products yet, take a look at Bilt Hamber detailing products - their paint cleanser or polish is on offer with Ben @ carnuabawaxshop.
Hydra Wax is very good for a liquid carnuaba-based wax - almost on a par with their Finis Wax.
