We bought a car a week ago which had one of these things hanging from the rear view mirror. I took it out and binned it as soon as we got it home, but the smell seems as strong as ever. It gives me a headache. The mats were a bit grubby, so I've already had them all out and out cleaned them with a vax wet/dry carpet cleaner and the seats are all leather. Presumably it has mostly perfused the carpets and headlining.

Any idea how long it will linger for or how to get rid of it quicker? Do trays of baking soda really have any effect?

Check under the seats and anywhere else you can stash them as I have known people in the past to stash the used ones when they replace the visible one?

Under seats, in door pockets, even found one in the sun visor!

I find all of the majic trees give me headaches.

Bought my BMW in July, had a black one hanging in it which I removed the second I got it home.

Can STILL smell the bloody thing!!
