Whats the best way to clean micro fibre cloths - just stick 'em in the washing machine? with or without detergent?

You'll need a very small amount of non-bio detergent.

No fabric conditioner as this takes out the static charge from the cloth.

A low temperature wash 30 - 50 deg

A good rinse cycle.

DON'T tumble dry incase of excess heat. Hang dry.

we wash in machine 60deg c (not worried about what liquid used)
we tumble dry all the cloths afterwards

Then sort them into the KDS levels of standard,
then place in different draws of the Mac tool boxes to suit the differing standards.

been doing this for years with many different types of cloths to no ill effect

Wash, but do not use fabric conditioner.

The fabric conditioner will otherwise smear off when they are used.

Tumble dry on low.

I'd personally stick with non-bio liquid detergent. Bio detergents contain ingredients which can cause a build-up of soap and affect the absorbency as well as containing enzymes which it too harsh for microfibre cloths.
Some makes of microfibre cloths state not to use a tumble dryer, others state tumble dry on a low setting, check your label on the cloth and remove the label before use! I've always hang dried.
Too much heat, whether during the wash or drying cycle will be detremental to the cloths performance.

A few things for sure, don't use powder, conditioner or bleaching agents.

Like threads about best waxes, polishes etc, everyone has their own opinion, some pre-soak cloths, some use fairy liquid to wash, some use white vinegar in the rinse cycle, I mean how hard can it be to look after a microfibre lol.

If in doubt, check the manufacturers instructions. You won't go far wrong doing that.

I just buy the big packs of yellow microfibres from Costco and throw them away when they're dirty. They're pretty cheap.

I find the Costco ones actually wash very well and are better once they have been. They are so cheap that one has the luxury of using a microfibre cloth for just about any job one chooses.

Still use an old t-shirt for the windows though!
