Alternative to welding
Discussion
Hi
I am progressing well with a MK1 Golf GTi restoration but am waiting on a friend to come out to do a small amount of welding.
I need a small plate welded on the floor which could possibly be done once the car was finished.
The other bit is where a previous owner had cut a hole in the centre, under the windscreen for a single wiper conversion. I have drilled the original holes back but am left with a 20mm hole.
Ideally I guess this would have a metal plate welded underneath and I would fill over the top.
Would it be acceptable to use some kind of glue to stick the metal plate in place removing the need for welding?
If not is there an alternative method?
Thank you

If you're going to fill it anyway, then bonding something in would work fine- so long as it isn't an area that is particularly stressed. No-one except you will ever know any different unless they're looking at it from the reverse side. However you're going to need the right sticky stuff.
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like it will be fine then. Any suggestions as to what would be the best bonding stuff to go for?
I have taken a couple of pictures to give you a better idea.
The shell as it stands:

The smaller of the two holes needs the plate underneath (scuttle panel):

The two holes in the floor next to the sill. Each hole is about thumb nail size. As above would it be acceptable to bond a plate to these holes? They are not part of or near the chassis legs.
Thanks again for any help!
