I have air fed mask etc for spraying the odd bit. I've decided to paint under wheel arches etc, 2 pack but with a brush.

Do I need to mask up? Air mask or just a filter over nose and gob. Or is it not a prob when brushing it on?

Just don't want to die young for a bit of paint smile

If you've got the kit to play safe then why not play safe and use the kit?

2 pack (containing isocyanate) gives off poisonous invisible fumes until it's cured.
Imagine the paint/lacquer, whilst in its wet state, is constantly giving off smoke. So although spraying is considerably worse - your tin of paint, your brush, and any other wet paint will be giving out iso's until its fully cured.
Punch 'HSE 2 pack paint' into google for more info.

Nonsense!

From the HSE website "This research detected no airborne isocyanate during mixing and brush and
roller application of isocyanates."

Ventilate the best you can, you aren't going to die from painting two wheel arches.
The damage is caused (just like silicosis, asbestosis etc) from prolonged exposure.

I hadn't seen the HSE bit that you quoted.

Also from the HSE website
Isocyanates are found in most vehicle coatings even in some ‘water-based' paints. Remember, 'water-based' does not necessarily mean 'isocyanate-free'. Spraying produces the highest exposures and is the main cause of occupational asthma. MVR paint sprayers have an 80 times higher risk of getting asthma compared with the UK working population. Every year over 50 sprayers are diagnosed with isocyanate asthma and most have to leave the industry.

So if spraying produces the highest exposures then there must be lower exposures (which might still be harmful).
I wonder what they might be?
