Hello, my sister has just bought a Audi A4 convertable, and she's wondering if there's anything she needs to do or treat the roof with for over the winter to keep it well maintained in the winter months, or if indeed anything is actually needed. I haven't seen the car yet, all I know is it is a 2004 and done about 80k miles, she says it isn't leaking or anything, I don't know a thing about convertable roofs, but I was under the impression if it's working fine, and not letting in water, then just regularly cleaning it with a brush and water would be enough to keep it up to scratch?

I gave mine a good scrub with Auto Glym convertible roof cleaner, rinsed well and then applied Fabsil once dry. The Fabsil has made it a doddle to keep looking good and water beads beautifully.

Pretty much as above, but with different products (Meguiars APC and 303 Fabric Protectant here). It isn't essential, but good to know the roof is protected from stains etc and the beading is a bonus.

The leading product on the market, made for the job, is Renovo. They simply dont do anything else.

A clean once every year or two with Fabric Hood Cleaner and a coat of Ultraproofer (which is non-silicone based, unlike many others so lasts longer) will do. A bottle of each is £13.25 at list.

There are a number of things to do to ensure the roof is well maintained. Clean when washing and rinse with a free running hose or watering can. Leave to dry naturally and once dry, a lint roll once over helps rid of the linting and fluff. If required, clean with Renovo fabric hood cleaner and seal with ultra proofer. Generally, once every six months with the Renovo system stands you in good stead. Lost count of how many ive worked on now and many have been full re-colour restores. Tried and tested most other brands but non stand up to the test as good as Renovo.
