Halfords Car Paint
Discussion
I need to paint the rear bumper on my Z3, and i have seen that Halfords stock the exact colour Boston Green, in an aerosol spray can, so has anyone on here had any experience of using these products, and if so what results were achieved.
I know i could take it to a body shop, but i quite fancy having a go.

Hi
Buying aerosols is an expensive way to but paint. I am sure it can be done but I guess you will need quite a few cans.
You will be left with a very 'orange peel' finish that will require a good flat and polish. To get a good depth of paint it is going to take a good few cans....
Cheers

Bumper should be very doable and probably needs 3 or 4 cans.
As with other paints , prep is everything.
I found the guide here very useful both when using aerosols and spraying using an HVLP gun.

Warm the can in hot water, heat the room & the item being sprayed & don't rush. You can get a factory finish quite easily. I've been doing this for eons with rattle cans, for small stuff there is no point in using a gun & spending ages after cleaning everything. The Ha;fords paint is actually very good, but the other option is to ask your local paint supplier to match the colour & fill an aerosol for you.
cheers TR7V8, like the tip, will definately try that one, had a very productive sunday in the garage managed to sand down the "new" bumper and fill all the small scrapes, then re-sand and cover with first coat of primer, all looks good so far and suprisingly easy, am guessing though that the trickier bit is still to come
The Aerosol cans are actually rather good. You might get them with an adjustable nozzle where you rotate the very tip of the nozzle by 90 degrees to change the spraying pattern from vertical fan to horizontal fan. Ensure you're using the right one before you take it to the panel.
Prime with a product like Upol acid etch #8 and flat off with wet and dry between coats
Get decent coverage on each coat and ensure it's thoroughly dry before cutting it back with wet and dry for the next coat.
