I though the whole point of Carnuba wax was that you built up layers to protect the car's paint work and deepen the shine. But have I got that wrong? Some websites suggest you cannot build up layers of carnuba and that at most two applications is all you need; others say you can and should do more.

Any views? I use the blue Zymol carnuba creame wax

Thanks

I normally put two coats on a clean time and then maybe 1 more a while later to freshen up the look.

As it's a sacrificial layer it depends on how long you leave it between layers.

Absolutely nothing wrong with layering it if you say put a layer on every month.

The law of diminishing returns applies if you put 3 or 4 layers on in 24hrs for example.

I am using Zymol wax on my Porsche
I washed and clay barred then as per the directions I applied the wax panel by panel and buffed up 20C weather
Looked great
2 days later I washed the car with Autoglym wash
When I chamois the car then dry with microfibre cloth my bonnet has streaks as if it was greasy
A washed again with new clean cloths.
Same problem.

Did you use HD cleanse before applying the Zymol?
I seem to remember that had to be applied first.

Get rid of the chamois for a start, they won’t be doing much apart from adding swirls marks. Try using a detailing spray such as Sonax brilliant shine detailer as a drying aid.

If your having trouble sleeping try watching Ammo NYC on YouTube. He’s goes into the most detail on car cleaning and you will pick up tips to use which will help.

The greasy marks that you refer to - are they in the same direction as you applied the wax? Zymol waxes do have a habit of 'out gassing', especially if applied to a warm panel or in direct sunlight.
Is it just the bonnet?
A citrus cleaner or a paint cleaner like Autoglym Super Resin polish should easily rectify, you'll then need to re wax the panel.

cheers

Try again without the chamois, IME chamois’ always have oils in them and produce a greasy finish. I dry with a Megiurs Water Magnet and that works well.

I recently switched to Zymol (Carbon for my black car) and used HD Cleanse beforehand and it came up a treat with no issues such as you describe.

Its a synthetic Chamois but the issue is when I final dry with the microfiber that's when I get the streaks

as the bonnet was the last panel I did it would have been warmer but not hot. Might be gassing ?
Its as if the wax is not fully going off and is soft. So when I micro fiber it smears
I guess Ill have to just try a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol to remove, then Use the HD Cleanse and reapply

Don't bother with the IPA, it'll do the same job as HD Cleanse so save some time and just use the HD and try re-waxing.
The out gassing usually happens after an hour or two, not immediately after application!?.

cheers
